Move Over Mia Hamm

Saturday was the big day. Avery went back and forth between "Mommy, I don't think I am ready" to "I am so excited". But when we got there she did great. There is only one other girl ont he team besides Avery. Her name is Sydney and the girls got on great. Sydney is possibly the best player on the team. She was a great role model for Avery.

Avery looked a little lost at the beginning but as her Coach, Kristin, gave her feedback she stepped up her game. She is very defense oriented, always looking to cover the goal but not much of one to push the ball forward. She would kick it once and then step back. I told her coach this is one place a girl doesn't need to be nice. Once she kicked it once she was done... and needs to be taught to follow through and keep the ball in play or pass it. But that will come with time.

It was great fun to watch her. I was most surprised that the socks and shoes did not become an issue. She put them right on and never said a word about them being uncomfortable. She just wanted to run in them. Which she did.

We did not come prepared for the game. I guess I am not quite a soccer mom yet. Everyone had their chairs and blankets and we had nothing. Next time we will bring all the necessities. But no matter, we had a great time. It was fun to see Avery participating in soccer and enjoying herself. Who knows, we may have a soccer star on out hands. Either way her pink cleats were to die for.
