A little silliness

CNN reported that "women are germier than men". The researchers aren't sure why women harbored a greater variety of bacteria than men, but Fierer suggested it may have to so with the acidity of the skin. Here are some of the highlights of the article.
  • Researchers tested samples from palms of 51 students for bacteria DNA.
  • They identified 4,742 species of bacteria overall; only 5 of which were on every hand
  • The average hand harbored 150 species of bacteria
  • Left and right hands of same person shared only about 17 percent of same bacteria
The point of this article was not to say that women wash their hands less than men.. but rather that there is a difference in the conditions found on the hands of women and men. Not only were there mega amounts of different bacteria but many people were harboring germs not found on other peoples hands OR on the other hand. Which implies that there are a lot of bacteria out there.

And the silliness..

Doc said "Oh no, another study to prove something we already know... that girls are gross."

"Ummm, honey, its reported that a man's hands can not support the life of some bacteria because of the acidity there."

Doc replies "They said girls have more germs of their hands and men's hands have acid... And that is COOL!"

I made sure to hold and rub his hand before he left. Did I ever tell you that Doc is germ phobic.
